Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Original Upload Date: Friday, November 26, 2010
Dates of Creation: November 24-26, 2010
Really and truly, I would have wanted to upload this (originally 9th) drawing, in order, with ALL the other former drawings from my previous account, but due to :devAquillaWhingate: (my older brother) suddenly planning to upload a digital version of my 2011 Thanksgiving image, this year, I don’t feel comfortable with him doing that until I have this and the following 2011 drawing put back onto an active account of mine, first. Therefore, I’ll just have to muddle through this break in my trying to be organized.
Additionally, I have spent the past several hours adjusting and updating the image descriptions of this and the following image.
Originally, I never got this uploaded before the midnight after “Turkey Day” was over, my time, but at least I’ve managed to correct for that this time
Image Creation Description
I would have liked to have more time to work on this, but due to a couple other images and other issues the past week/s of November 2010, I was left with only November 23-25, 2010) to meditate (on what exactly I wanted to make) and actually draw it…the result is what you see before you.
Along with all my “image references,” I began the tedious process of drawing the Linework/Sketch over the period of Wednesday (11-24-10) & Thursday (11-25-10). [Since “dmg01” and I were on better terms back then, when she gave her input about this image on (11-25-10), she said, that instead of the typical Pilgrim outfit (my initial idea for the dress) she would like it if it would be more of a formal style of dress (including gloves, shoulders, etc.), thus that is what I did.
I finished up and colored it for a few hours on the 25th…and sadly, all the way into (11-26-10) of when it was too late to be on time.
For Dark Magician Girl’s Dress/Outfit:
The pads across her collar & shoulders were to incorporate styles/ideas of my initial-idea-pilgrim-outfit
I did what I could to make slightly puffy, yet slightly flowing, shoulders
The final decision on the colors ended up coming out somewhat like the tail feathers of a turkey; and unintentional, good result
Just like her magician’s outfit, I gave her a necklace; in this case it is a -shaped Ruby pendant.
The shoulder pads & gloves were originally given the slightest tint of blue, but it failed, so I used PSE 7 to paint over/correct it.
For the Background:
I basically had NO idea of what to make, thus what you see is just what came up (on short notice) as I went along with the image:
The bare trees
The few attached tree leaves with “movement marks” around them to indicate a breeze
The few leaves scattered on the ground as well as those in the air, blowing with the breeze
The old wooden fence
The rolling hills
The sunset colored sky with the yellowish colored just beginning to rise
The bird “V”s to indicate Geese flying south
The words, “Happy Thanksgiving” in a “Times New Roman”-ish “small caps” font in an “orchid” color
Besides the gloves, I used PSE7 to crop out the extra white areas made by the scanner.
Credits/Links/References
Due to being short of ideas and reference points, I needed to browse around deviantART to find at least something to give me inspiration, thus:
The Main Tree’s branches, style & shape, as well as, the turkey’s overall shape was inspired by this image, yukenna.deviantart.com/art/Tha… by ~Yukenna
The Dresses overall color, was inspired by this image, shortpinay.deviantart.com/art/… by ~shortpinay
I already had decided that I wanted Dark Magician Girl to be holding a Turkey, but this image, shortpinay.deviantart.com/art/… by ~shortpinay helped me with figuring out how her hands and arms should be wrapped around the cute little fowl
The “formal” style gown part of the dress was inspired by this image, jmr-mobius-1.deviantart.com/ar… by ~JMR-Mobius-1
The elbow length gloves were made using my old DMG wedding dress image, as a reference point.
